What's your favorite thing about Columbia?
My favorite thing about Columbia is the location, which gives me that sense of independence while still being close enough to my hometown, where I can still go visit family.
What are your hobbies or things you like to do?
One of my current favorite hobbies is bedazzling. It is relaxing and a stress relief whenever I am overwhelmed with my studies and extracurricular activities. Another thing that brings me joy is learning new coffee recipes to make and try. My current favorite drink to make is a brown sugar shaken espresso.
What has surprised you the most about Nursing school?
One thing that has surprised me the most about nursing school is the number of resources the College of Nursing has for nursing courses. One of my favorite resources is the Supplement Instruction Session (SI Sessions) because it helps explain topics discussed in lecture in greater detail. Another thing that surprised me about nursing school is how approachable the professors are and how willing they are to help you if you are struggling with something.
What is an accomplishment in college that you are very proud of?
One accomplishment I am very proud of is the grades I am currently making, although some of the grades I did not want or did not expect. I learned how to apply the things that I learned from the first exam and made so much more progress on the second exam. My current example of this is with Bio pathophysiology, formally known as NURS 216.
Why did you choose USC?
I chose USC because of how diverse the student community is here. The variety of student-led organizations and how there is bound to be an organization for you. Another reason I chose USC is its nursing program. The amount of success this program has had over the past couple you inspired me to apply.
What advice would you give incoming students?
I would tell any incoming student to keep an open mind. Know you why in whatever you are trying to accomplish, whether that is within nursing or the university as a whole. I would also say first impressions matter, be mindful of the things you are doing in public because you never know who you are going to come across in the future, or who they may be connected with.
