Application Process and Requirements
Whether you are currently in high school or you are a current college or university student looking to transfer into the Moore School, all applications must be submitted through Undergraduate Admissions. However, transfer students must also meet minimum transfer requirements to be qualified for our programs.
Moore School Entrance Requirements
In addition to the academic admission requirements of the Darla Moore School of Business, a limit on admission to the program may be imposed. An enrollment limit would become necessary if enrollment levels exceed school staffing capabilities and resources. The Undergraduate Admissions Committee, in consultation with the dean of the school, will be responsible for adjusting undergraduate enrollment levels to ensure the quality of the undergraduate program. A student who meets admissions criteria will be favorably considered, but because of space limitations admission cannot be guaranteed. Once minimum criteria are met, all qualified applicants are placed into an admissions group and are ranked by academic credentials. Based on the number of available seats, students are admitted in ranked order until capacity is reached. The Moore School only accepts new applicants for the fall term.
Transfer Students
- An applicant who has graduated from high school, has attended another properly accredited post-secondary institution, or has attempted one or more courses is a transfer student, regardless of credit earned.
- High school graduates who take summer school courses in between graduation and the fall semester that immediately follows are not considered transfer students.
- External transfer students (applying to the Moore School from a school outside of the USC-Columbia campus) must apply directly through South Carolina's Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Internal transfer students (applying to the Moore School from another college within USC-Columbia) should follow the "Internal Transfer Application Process" outlined below.
The application deadline for Fall admission to the Moore School is March 1. Late applications are not accepted under any circumstances.
Transfer requirements for the Moore School are:
- A minimum South Carolina cumulative GPA of a 3.25
- Completed a minimum of 15 USC semester hours, and
- A grade of C or higher in calculus (MATH 122 or 141) at USC
or AP/IB or dual enrollment credit for calculus
Transfer admission into the Moore School is competitive and there are two rounds of evaluation:
Round 1
- Is for evaluation of students who have satisfied all three requirements noted above.
- Those selected for transfer admission into the Moore School will receive a letter by March 15.
- If not selected, applicants will automatically be reconsidered for admission in Round 2, and will be notified of the decision by the end of May.
Round 2
- Round 2 is for evaluation of students who have not yet satisfied all requirements but expect to by end of Spring semester.
- Students who are missing one or more of the requirements at the time of application will be evaluated for admission consideration on a space-available basis, after completion of Spring semester when grades and completed course work are available.
- Those selected for transfer admission to the Moore School will receive a letter by the end of May.
- Students not selected will be notified by the end of May.
In the rare circumstance where a student completes the calculus or GPA requirement in the summer after the admission period has ended, they may reach out to the Undergraduate Office to submit an appeal for admissions consideration. If you would like to submit an appeal, please reach out to undergrad@moore.sc.edu and request an Internal Transfer Appeal Form. As these decisions are made on a space-available basis and there are no guarantees of acceptance, it is highly recommended that students do not wait until the summer to complete internal transfer requirements.
Transfer admission to the Moore School is on a competitive basis. In addition to the academic admission requirements of the Moore School, a limit on transfer enrollment to the college could be imposed. An enrollment limit would become necessary if enrollment levels exceed school staffing capabilities and resources. The Undergraduate Admissions Committee, in consultation with the dean of the school, is responsible for adjusting undergraduate enrollment levels to ensure the quality of the undergraduate program. A student who meets admission criteria will be considered, but because of space limitations, admission cannot be guaranteed.
