Adair Boroughs

Adair Ford Boroughs is a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Joseph F. Rice School of Law at the University of South Carolina, where her teaching and research focus on federal practice.  She directs the Federal Civil Practice Clinic and teaches classes related to federal practice and procedure.

Prior to her appointment as a Visiting Assistant Professor, Boroughs served as the United States Attorney for the District of South Carolina, following nomination by President Biden and confirmation by the U.S. Senate. Previously, Boroughs was a partner at Boroughs Bryant, LLC, served as Executive Director of Charleston Legal Access, and clerked for U.S. District Judge Richard M. Gergel. Boroughs began her legal career as a trial attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. as part of the Attorney General’s Honors Program. Prior to law school, she taught high school math in South Carolina’s public schools.

Boroughs received her J.D., with distinction, from Stanford Law School and her B.S. in Mathematics, summa cum laude, from Furman University. She is also Harry S. Truman Scholar.
