CIEL Fellows serve as advocates for integrative learning (including Graduation with Leadership Distinction) in their home area and provide valuable perspectives and recommendations to CIEL. As an integral part of the CIEL team, Fellows work with a small group of students in ePortfolio development and participate in assessment of student learning. Fellows have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues on scholarship related to integrative learning. We encourage applications from all disciplines.
Compensation
CIEL Fellows are featured on the CIEL website and will be provided $1000 through a stipend or departmental transfer (which can be used for research materials, travel, or summer stipends as negotiated with the department) following their term.
Duties
- Support and promote CIEL initiatives with an emphasis on integrative learning and Graduation with Leadership Distinction in home department/school/college and/or through CIEL communications (e.g. messages shared through the website or other promotional materials).
- Support 4 to 6 GLD students in completing ePortfolios and review up to 4 submitted ePortfolios. Typically occurs in the spring semester.
- Attend relevant trainings and meetings.
- Fall semester: Attend ePortfolio rubric training session (2.5 hours) to discuss integrative learning, Graduation with Leadership Distinction, and assessment of learning
- Spring semester: Attend one virtual meeting in January (prior to the first day of classes), meet with assigned students, participate in assessment process, and attend an end-of-semester debrief meeting
- Fall semester: (Faculty) Attend one meeting with Faculty Executive Director to coordinate scholarship activities, share across disciplines, and provide feedback
- (Faculty) Engage in scholarly activity on integrative learning (e.g., joint grant proposal, article, and/or presentation), as appropriate for the individual.
- (Staff) Contribute to the advancement of integrative learning through professional practice and collaboration (e.g. co-developing programs, joint grant proposals, conference presentations, practice-based articles), as appropriate for the individual.
Qualifications
Faculty Fellows must be full-time tenure-track or professional-track faculty at USC Columbia or Palmetto College campuses. All CIEL Fellows should have experience in supporting students in reflection and integrative learning. Preferred qualities include the ability to support students in learning from beyond the classroom experiences, guide students to articulate learning in writing, and engage and inspire colleagues.
