Venice Walton, a senior Technology Support and Training Management major, recently completed an internship with the Geek Squad at Best Buy. The Geek Squad is a group of skilled computer service agents who provide technology support around the clock. They will help work on your computer, printer, digital camera, and even your remote control. When Venice found out about the internship she was already working for Best Buy, so she was transferred to the Geek Squad to work as an in-store agent. A typical day for Venice included a lot of customer service. She would attempt to repair customers' computers while they were browsing the store. If the computer could not be repaired while the customer waited, Venice would check it in to be repaired in-store or to be shipped to the service center in Kentucky. She also worked to optimize new computers purchased in the store. Some of these services included the installation of security software and clutter clean up. “I think the coolest thing about my internship is the fact that we actually have commercials advertising our services,” says Venice. “I mean, just wearing my uniform alone has people asking me computer questions all the time.” Venice says that the courses she has taken have helped give her great management and technical skills. “With my management skills, it was easier to communicate with my teammates and actively help customers,” she says. Venice’s career goal is to get into project management, where she would be in an environment where she would be constantly working with teams to complete projects. After graduation, she plans to work with the Geek Squad full time to continue to gain more technical experience. We wish you well as you begin your career! |
